10 reason why Dirk is the MVP...

    No. 10: About Time
Since 2002 the world basketball market has not been dominated by teams from the United States. It was a matter of time that the NBA’s most valuable player only reflects the changing of power in the international diplomacy of the world’s best sport. Dirk is the first European or non-North American to win the award.

    No. 9: Representative of Change
Anytime a player transcends the game to new heights while winning deserves recognition. People forget that Dirk is playing a forward/wing game in a 7-1 frame. While most 7-footers are patrolling the paint, Nowitzki is displaying his complete game from 25-plus feet.

    No. 8: Apart of Winning
Every year for the past seven his teams have won. Over this era the Mavericks have won an average of 58 games per season with Dirk starting 96 percent of the available contests.

    No. 7: Body of Work
Dirk hasn’t just done it this season but from 2000 he has averaged 24 points., 9.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists while shooting 39 percent from 3-point range, 50 percent from inside the arc and 88 percent from the line. He is and has been one of the most productive and efficient players in the league for quite some time. Not to mention he has gone through an evolution of styles from offensive based to defensive based teams and has still maintained his dominance. Although it is a seasonal award factors such as these come into the decision making process.

No. 6: Body of Playoff Work
Comparing him to other great players past and present he ranks 13 in playoff points per game with an average of 25.2 which sets him ahead of Malone, Abdul-Jabbar, Duncan, Bird, Kobe, Barkley, Hayes, Wilt, KG, Dr. J, Reggie, Isiah. He’s slotted at No. 22 in play-off rebounds per game with 11.1 which sets him apart from Malone, Marion, the Admiral, Kareem, Willis Reed, Dennis Rodman, Ewing and Bird. Five of the last eight MVP winners have never won an NBA Championship.

    No. 5: Writers Block
The award is determined by the writers across the country and it is not always an indicator of the best overall basketball player. Jordan only won it five times in the prime eight years of his career and few could argue there were better overall basketball players in his era.

No. 4: If You Removed Him from His Team ...?
Is a common question asked when debating the worthiness of MVP candidates. Every star player in this league is valuable to his team and to penalize a well structured team for having two or three stars is unfair. Look at what happened to Washington without Arenas. Imagine where the Cavs would be without LeBron or the Spurs without Duncan. Without Dirk the Mavs would still be a competitive team with play-off potential but they would not have won 67 games or set all of those records. He is an irreplaceable player who headlines opponents scouting reports every single night!

No. 3: If you had to start a team right now to win right now who would you chose ...?
Another question posed when determining who the most important player in the league is. The answer can be skewed on many factors outside of player’s offensive and defensive abilities. Leadership, morals, communication skills and work ethic all play a part in selecting the cornerstones of franchises. It is a great testament to the quality of basketball in this league that we can all argue four to six names without any discernable winner and one of those names is Dirk Nowitzki.

No. 2: Best Player on the Best Team
People usually agree that the award belongs to the lead player on the league best team. With 67 wins and the various records the Mavs set this season it is hard to argue that Dirk wasn’t deserving of the MVP. One could speculate that a member of the Pistons should have won the award in 05-06 but the pressing question was which Piston was their best player. The fact that they had, and still do have, the best starting five and Four all-stars to chose from hurt them in selecting one to receive the award.

    No. 1: Regular Season Award
The Mavericks disappointing first round collapse has no affect on the accomplishments of this years most valuable player. Even though he was a factor in the overall result, the series wasn’t solely Nowitzki’s fault. The Maurice Podoloff recipient is based upon the achievements during the regular season alone, as it is in most sports. No one can dispute what Dirk has done over the past year. You can rearrange the argument any way you like to fit your definition but ask yourself what didn’t he do and what didn’t this players team accomplish? He scored 25pts a game while shooting 50 percent from the floor, better than 40 percent from three-point range, better than 90 percent form the free throw line, averaged nine boards and 3.4 assists 35 minutes.

Only Yao and McGrady had a higher average while playing fewer minutes per game. He also played better; shot better, rebounded better and scored better against playoff teams. People will compare all types of stats and figures so here are some to digest. Dirk scored the fifth most total points and ranked 14 in points per game average. Steve Nash in 2005-06 was 29th in total points scored and 33rd in points per game average. Dirk’s regular season numbers were 5 points more than his post season numbers compared to Wade’s (2006 Finals MVP) four points more.

Nowitzki plays in the toughest division and conference in the NBA with all 5 All-NBA first-team players from the West (first time since 2000). His statistical numbers are right there with the last five power forwards who won the MVP award. KG, Duncan twice, Malone twice. As the award is currently structured there is no debate that Dirk Nowitzki is the MVP!

steve nash is the deserving MVP for the 3rd straight year... He has better stats and better vision of the game... Dirk just shoots the ball and usually teammates niya mu setup niya for the shot... dili sya creative as nash... and dili sya motivator like nash...
