When you play in the new world, you will discover and create many different items. Some of them are better than others, simply because they have a higher Gear Score. However, items with the same score may also vary greatly because of their rarity.


In most MMORPG games, the higher the rarity, the better the item. But in new world, this system works differently. It represents the number of perks that the item has. Perks are special additional functions and abilities of your items.


There are 5 rare levels in the New World MMORPG:


Common [Grey] – 0 perks
Uncommon [Green] – 1 perk
Rare [Blue] – 2 perks
Epic [Purple] – 3 perks
Legendary [Orange]-named and legendary items have planning privileges and fixed equipment points


As you can see, the system is very simple and straightforward. When you look at an item in inventory, you always know how much perks it has. If it is purple, it has 3 additional benefits, if it is green, there is only one. Legendary items do not follow this rule. They may have different amounts of perks.


There is one thing you must remember: items with the same equipment score and the same rarity may be very different due to different privileges! They are not equal. You may have 2 Epic Swords in your inventory, but one of them may have a good perk for your character, while the other is absolutely useless for your play style.


In one of the articles, the New World developers mentioned that these perks are randomly assigned to common items [not legends]. This fact means that sometimes there may be situations where you may prefer a lower rare item simply because it has a better perk.


Suppose you are a mage and you have discovered a new epic staff with 3 perks and the same equipment score. Your current unusual employee has a lower rarity and only one privilege, but this privilege is more suitable for your personality. Of course, you will not replace existing employees just because new employees are rarer.


Therefore, it is a bad idea to wear epic [purple] items just because they have a better rarity. What you must always pay attention to is not the color of the item, but the perks!


Legends and named items


Legendary and named items are very special. They have locked equipment scores and curatorial privileges, which means that these privileges are not randomly assigned to items. The developer controls this process. This is why legendary things are usually cool, and all players dream of finding a yellow piece of equipment.
